From Morocco to Germany: Loubna’s Inspiring Journey of Resilience, Motherhood, and Never Giving Up

For this episode of Afrodite’s Space, we sat down with Loubna in Germany to talk about a journey that many migrants will instantly relate to—the reality of starting over, building a new life from scratch, balancing motherhood with ambition, and refusing to let setbacks define the future.
Loubna’s story is a powerful reminder that success isn’t always about having the perfect plan. Sometimes, it’s simply about showing up every single day, even when life feels overwhelming.
A Journey That Was Never Part of the Plan
Growing up in Morocco, Loubna always considered herself curious and ambitious, but Germany was never part of her life plan. She studied programming and focused on building her future at home until one unexpected decision changed everything. After visiting her brother in Germany, she discovered a completely different educational system that inspired her to stay and continue her studies.
What started as a visit soon became a life-changing decision.
Seven years later, she has completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Germany and is now preparing for a PhD. Her journey proves that life rarely follows a straight line—and sometimes the opportunities we never planned for become the ones that shape us the most.
Starting From Zero Is Harder Than People Think
Moving abroad is often portrayed as an exciting new beginning, but Loubna shares the side that many people don’t see.
She arrived in Germany in late 2019, just before the pandemic. Living in a small town, with no friends, no support system, and everything suddenly shutting down due to COVID-19, loneliness quickly became one of her biggest challenges.
Everything was unfamiliar—the language, the culture, the supermarkets, even simple daily interactions.
Like many international students and professionals, she also had to start her career all over again despite already having qualifications and work experience.
“When we came here, we had to start from zero.”
New internships. Entry-level positions. Working alongside people much younger. Learning a completely different system.
It’s a reality many migrants quietly experience, even if few people talk about it openly.
Motherhood, Career, and the Myth of Perfect Balance
Today, Loubna works as a Process Manager while raising two young children and pursuing a PhD.
Her role involves designing business workflows, identifying automation opportunities, working closely with developers, and helping companies improve their internal processes.
Yet behind every professional achievement is another full-time role—being a mother.
Rather than pretending everything is perfectly balanced, Loubna offers an honest perspective.
Some days work requires more attention. Other days family comes first.
Instead of chasing perfect balance every single day, she has learned to accept that balance happens over time, not necessarily within every 24 hours.
It’s a refreshing reminder that success doesn’t require perfection—it requires persistence.
The Two Skills That Changed Everything
Throughout the interview, Loubna repeatedly comes back to two lessons that transformed her journey.
The first is learning German.
Although she never attended language school, she challenged herself to learn through everyday life, online videos, and conversations with her husband and his family.
Today, she believes speaking German opens doors far beyond employment—it creates opportunities for deeper integration, stronger relationships, and greater confidence.
The second is developing practical skills.
Instead of collecting titles, Loubna encourages people to become exceptionally good at something.
Whether it’s process mining, automation, programming, or another technical skill, consistent learning creates opportunities that qualifications alone cannot.
Why Personalised Applications Beat Hundreds of Generic Ones
Like many job seekers, Loubna initially believed success meant submitting as many applications as possible.
The result?
Hundreds of rejections.
Everything changed when she stopped applying randomly.
She carefully researched one company, tailored her CV, customized her motivation letter, and studied the job description in depth.
That personalized application led to her first interview—and eventually opened the door to her career.
Her advice is simple:
Don’t focus on sending more applications.
Focus on sending better ones.
Stop Comparing Your Timeline
One of the most powerful moments in the conversation comes when Loubna talks about comparison.
She admits that she often looked at other women and wondered why they seemed to achieve success much faster.
Over time, she realised that comparison only steals confidence.
Everyone’s journey moves at a different pace.
The only person worth competing with is the version of yourself from yesterday.
Her message is one that so many women need to hear:
“Just trying is enough. You are not failing if you are trying.”
